Pronouns

Words that replace nouns to avoid repetition.

Pronouns are words that stand in place of nouns. Instead of repeating a noun again and again, we use a pronoun to refer back to it.

A pronoun is a word that is used in place of a noun or noun phrase. Pronouns help us avoid repetition.

Without pronouns: Sarah picked up Sarah's bag and Sarah left the room.

With pronouns: Sarah picked up her bag and she left the room.

The noun that the pronoun refers to is called the antecedent.
